Curriculum

Here at Banana Moon Day Nursery, we offer a play based day with hidden learning!!

We provide well planned experiences indoors and outdoors based on each individual child’s interests. Our staff team will support all children to learn with enjoyment and challenge, having a balance of child initiated and adult led play based activities.

In our Baby Moon and Mini Moon Rooms, we will be working with the guidance ‘Pre-Birth to Three: Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families’, which is closely linked to the Early Years Framework 2008. ‘Prebirth to Three’ recognises the importance of pregnancy and the first years of life in influencing children’s development and future outcomes. A focus on this period is therefore critical to achieving positive outcomes for Scotland’s children and families. Staff working with babies and families understand that learning takes place initially within the womb. They also appreciate that babies arrive into the world with their individual personalities, ready to adapt to, and be influenced by their environment.  We aim to create an enriching and nurturing environment to  provide this here at Banana Moon Day Nursery.

As children grow and develop, they will progress into our Full Moon’s Room, where staff will continue to promote their learning and development through the ‘Curriculum for Excellence’, which aims to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18 years. The curriculum aims to ensure that all children and young people in Scotland develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in life, learning and work.

We aim to ensure that our children aged 3-5 are fully involved in their own learning and development, and we recognise that children develop at different stages and so provide a differentiated curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of the individual child and promote their development in line with the Curriculum for Excellence Early Level.

We use a keyworker system in our Full Moon’s Room. Our key groups are allocated according to the children’s developmental stage so that staff can plan and deliver challenging and stimulating activities for the group, and our daily routine allows for these sessions.

At Banana Moon Day Nursery, our routines, activities and nursery environments are designed to enhance these areas, offering them opportunities to play and practice their growing skills, ensuring that every child has an opportunity to learn and develop at a pace that is suitable to them.

We plan, observe and assess your children in each of these areas, allowing us to provide a variety of learning experiences that are not only of interest to them, but building on what they already know!

Practitioners will observe your child on a regular basis to identify and assess the progress they are making – regardless of your child’s age or their attendance pattern at nursery. Observations help practitioners to decide where the children are in their learning and development and to plan what to do next.

Observations and photographs of your child will be placed in their own Learning Journey. This document captures their learning from the first day they start at Banana Moon until the day we say goodbye. We encourage parents and other family members to contribute to this document throughout your child’s time at Banana Moon Day Nursery.
