Full Moons Shape Their Own Learning Through Community and Family Partnerships

At Banana Moon Dyce, we believe that children learn best when their interests, ideas and experiences are placed at the heart of their learning journey.
Recently, our Full Moons children have been actively engaging in community learning opportunities and working alongside their families to share their thoughts, ideas and interests about what they would like to learn about next.
By listening to children's voices and building strong partnerships with families, we are able to create meaningful learning experiences that reflect each child's current interests, curiosities and developmental needs. These valuable conversations help us plan engaging opportunities that are relevant, purposeful and centred around what matters most to the children.
Our approach also encourages families to become active participants in their child's learning journey. By inviting parents and carers into the nursery to share experiences and contribute ideas, we strengthen the connection between home and nursery, creating a collaborative learning environment that benefits every child.
Through these shared experiences, children are developing important skills including confidence, communication, decision-making and self-expression. They are learning that their opinions matter and that they can play an active role in shaping their own learning experiences.
Guided by the Curriculum for Excellence and the principles of Me, My Family and My Childcare Setting, we recognise children as capable, competent learners. By valuing their contributions and encouraging them to explore their interests, we help foster a sense of belonging, independence and engagement within both the nursery and the wider community.
We look forward to continuing to follow the children's ideas and seeing where their learning journeys take them next.
