The Importance of Outdoor Play at Banana Moon Dyce
At Banana Moon Dyce, outdoor play isn't something we save for sunny days — it's an important part of children's everyday experiences.
Our outdoor environment gives children opportunities to move their bodies, explore the natural world, investigate their own ideas and experience learning in ways that can be very different from indoors.
You might find children digging and mixing in the mud kitchen, caring for plants, investigating natural materials, transporting water, creating their own games or simply stopping to notice something interesting they have discovered.
There doesn't always need to be an adult-planned activity.
Some of the richest learning can come from giving children the time, space and freedom to follow their own curiosity. Our practitioners observe what children are interested in and consider how the environment, resources and their interactions can support or extend that learning.
Outdoor play also provides opportunities for children to develop their physical confidence, independence and awareness of risk as they learn what their bodies can do.
For us, the outdoors is another learning environment — and one that offers different possibilities every day.
